The Litegear litemats are a lightweight bi-color LED panel light made by litegear. As it’s intensity grew over new versions, it’s become a very versatile light that could be used for a key, backlight, or fill light.

Uses

Because its lightweight it is often times a go to for rigging for location work where a larger heavier unit like an Arri S60 might not work.

The Litemat 4 is usually used as a key or fill light because of the large size of the source, while the litemat 2L is usually used as a backlight since it’s skinner, but has a wider spread. These units are often preferable to their HMI or tungsten counterparts because they are dimmable and bi color.

QC Process

  • Plug unit in, wiggle connections.
  • Dim up and down and crossfade from full tungsten to daylight to ensure functionality.
  • Check all three diffusions for tears or stains

Accessories

This unit comes with 1/4, 1/2, and full grid diffusion faces and an egg crate. They also have snap grid egg crates for the Litemat of varying degrees.

Troubleshooting

The head feeders often go bad, so if it’s not turning on, try plugging the light directly into the head. If that doesn’t work, try replacing each part to narrow down which piece has failed. Otherwise there are not many user servicable parts.

Substitutions

The S60 with a chimera could be a good substitute, as long as they don’t need a lightweight unit and are just looking for an LED panel.

The Litemat 2L could also work, but it’s not ideal since it’s a different size and has different output.
