Slack Usage

Slack is the main method of communication when it comes to the operations of JML. It provides a history, the ability to upload photos & videos, it is searchable and more importantly, it provides visibility so everyone can be up to date with what is happening or any issues that might be present.
Do NOT use text messages. The main issue with using text messages is that the information is not visible to anyone but the recipients, so things might fall through the cracks if the message is not forwarded.
- Our slack workspace is jmlproductions.slack.com
- Get the slack app for your phone and install it. You will get a slack invite to the board.
- When you are working, you are expected to pay attention to slack.
Slack Channels
- #rental-paperwork is used for photos of the check-out and check-in forms for every rentals
- #current-rentals is used to ask questions about a rental or note issues on a return
- #needslist is used to note stuff we need to buy, expendables, replacement, etc...
- #shop-todo is where short term assignments are given. This is stuff you should do during your shift.
- #camera-department is where we put camera specific discussions
- #general is general discussions not specific to any other channel
Slack Best Practice
- When you are addressing someone, make sure to use @userid so they get notified directly. Every response should also be tagged.
- When replying to a post, use reply in thread (the text bubble icon) to carry the conversation. Also use @user if directing response to someone.
- If it's a request for a task (#shop-todo) or item (#needslist), reply in thread with done/ordered when the task is done or stuff ordered
- Any issue with gear (missing part, damage, etc...) should be flagged in #current-rentals. Just a note (missing cable, flag ripped) is fine. If there is damage, a photo is needed.
